Special Comcast SportsNet Event Included Patriots Linebacker Jerod Mayo

Tuesday night I had the privilege of attending a special event hosted by Comcast SportsNet at Waxy O'Connors in Foxboro. It was a chance to meet quite a few of the talent associated with their Patriots related programming. It also was their opportunity to announce their expanded coverage of the Patriots in 2011.

Before I talk about their new show and added talent, I wanted to tell you about the highlight of the night. It had to be the opportunity to have a few minutes to meet Patriots linebacker Jerod Mayo, and actually ask him a few questions.

All I can tell you is Mr. Mayo couldn't have been nicer to myself, and everyone else he met at this event. After the introduction I had to ask the question that has been on my mind this entire pre-season about the defense.

Will the Patriots come out in an attacking 4-3 defense against the Dolphins Monday night? Mayo answered, "I don't even have the game-plan yet, and I am actually heading back to the stadium after the event".

I felt a need to at least ask the question, and he happen to be very nice to take the time to talk to me. I would have the opportunity a little later to ask another question to Mayo.

As the night progressed they had segments with their hosts, which included  Q and A sessions. Tom E. Curran did his segment with Mayo, and eventually opened up questions to the audience. I had the final question of the evening for Mayo. I asked him if it was difficult switching from a 4-3 defense at Tennessee to a base 3-4 defense with the Patriots.  Below is his answer.

"It was a huge adjustment taking on the lineman. I wasn't used to having guards shooting out after me."   

The night also had a segment with the hosts of Patriots Football Weekly. The panel included editor Fred Kirsch, and reporters Paul Perillo and Andy Hart.

The final part of the evening was the segment with Gary Tanguay and Patriots legend Troy Brown. They are hosting a new show which starts today called"Patriots Wednesday Live". The show is live from Foxboro from noon-1PM EST on Wednesday's, which will have the press conferences of Tom Brady andBill Belichick. However, what makes this show different is that it will include extensive coverage from the Patriots locker room.

I feel that Comcast Sports Net has the most extensive Patriots related programming on television now. Along with the new show, they still have New England Football Night on Thursday's which is a block of programming from 7PM - 8:30 PM EST.

Before the night was over they made one final announcement. Ty Law will be joining Troy Brown on Sports Sunday to breakdown the Patriots games. The host of this show is Michael Felger. It will be interesting to watch what Law can bring to the table as a Patriots analyst.

It was a special night to just talk Patriots football for 90 minutes. What is better than that?
