Revs Lose 5-0 to Sporting Kansas City

The Revs took a tough loss on the road in the U.S. Open Cup play in match Wednesday Night. Read how the Revs fell 5-0 to Sporting Kansas City.

The New England Revolution were in action Wednesday night on the road to face Sporting Kansas City in a U.S. Open Cup play in match. Unfortunately, the result was not positive for the Revs as they lost 5-0 in Overland Park, Kansas.

Sporting Kansas City had the match in control midway through the first half. They scored 3 goals in the first 25 minutes. It would be an uphill struggle for the Revs from that point on in the game.

Chance Myers would score goals in the 9th and 19th minute of the match for Sporting Kansas City. To really put the home team in the driver seat, C. J. Sapong would grab a goal in the 24th minute with an assist from former Revs player Seth Sinovic. The half would end with Sporting Kansas City leading 3-0.

The second half would see Sporting Kansas City score two more late goals. Aurelien Collin got a goal in the 81st minute. Also, to add insult to injury, Sapong would score his second of the match in the 88th minute. The game would end minutes later with the Revs taking a bad 5-0 loss to Sporting Kansas City.

Now, to be fair to the Revs, they did play many reserves in this match. Key players that did not play included Shalrie Joseph, Benny Feilhaber, Rajko Lekic, A.J. Soares, and Matt Reis. Obviously playing mostly a reserve team had a huge affect on this match.
