Revs Blow Lead Once Again In 2-2 Draw With The Red Bulls

The Revs were in action Saturday night against the New York Red Bulls. Read how they would blow a lead once again late in the match.

The  New England Revolution (4-11-11, 23 points), were in action Saturday night, and faced the New York Red Bulls (6-6-14, 32 points), at Gillette Stadium. Milton Caraglio would score 2 first half goals to give the Revs the commanding lead. However, the Red Bulls would get two second half goals from Dane Richards to get the visitors level. The Revs would blow a lead once again in their 2-2 draw with the Red Bulls.

The Revs came out very strong, and almost scored in the 5th minute. Kenny Mansally sent a wonderful cross into the box, and Caraglio's header bounces over the goal.

However, the Argentinian forward would get his first Revs goal a little later. In the 15th minute, Caraglio would have his initial shot blocked by New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul. However, he would take the rebound, and strike a shot into the net. The Revs were up early 1-0.

Caraglio was far from done in the first half. In the 37th minute, off of a free kick from Mansally, he would glance a header into the net to give the Revs 2-0 lead.

Right before half time the Revs dodged a bullett as it seemed Dax McCarty was fouled inside of the box by Revs goalkeeper by Bobby Shuttleworth. However, the referee gave a yellow card to McCarty instead. The Revs luckily went into the half with the commanding 2-0 lead.

The Red Bulls would come out firing in the second half in an attempt to get back into the match. Well, it wouldn't take long for the visitors to cut the lead in half. In the 53rd minute, Richards made a great run, and eventually would beat Shuttleworth to cut the Revs lead to 2-1.

The Revs unfortunately would be under more pressure a few minutes later. In the 55th minute, Kenny Mansally would pick up his second yellow, and would be ejected from the game. The Revs would then be down to 10 men. They would be under pressure for several minutes as they were trying to hold on for the victory. However, in the 69th minute, Teemu Tainio would receive his second yellow card as the Red Bulls were then down to 10 men as well.

With 20 minutes plus left could the Revs hold on to the lead, and get the 3 points they desperately needed? Unfortunately, they would fail to get a victory. In the 87th minute, Joel Lindpere from the left side, would send a great cross into the box for Richards, who would bang the pass into the back of the net. Late in the match, the score was tied 2-2.

The match would end minutes later as the Revs and the Red Bulls played a 2-2 draw. This was the second straight game that the Revolution gave up a late goal that would cost them dearly.

The draw ruined the breakout performance of Caraglio, who was spectacular in the forward position. The Revs will next be in action on Sunday August 28th on the road to face the Philadelphia Union. The match takes place at PPL Park and starts at 7PM EST.
