Sick of Shoveling, DeVellis and Walsh Declare They're 'Leaving Snow and Election Behind' for Florida

Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis cites Foxborough's vulnerability to storms as reason for exodus.

Foxborough Board of Selectmen James DeVellis and Lynda Walsh have had it with all of this snow.

The two board members, who are both up for reelection this spring, have weighed their options and have decided to take their talents - and sanity - south to Florida.

"After shoveling all day, Lynda Walsh and I have decided to move down to Florida together and leave this snow and the election behind," DeVellis told Foxborough Patch just after 6 p.m. Friday.

The reason? Foxborough's magnet for major snow activity became too much for the selectmen after a surprise two-day storm buried the town in over 20 inches of snow. A fifth snow day in one calendar year coupled with over 40 inches of snow in five weeks appears to be the breaking point for the Board of Selectmen chair.

"Why Foxborough is the epicenter of the storm once again, we don’t know," said DeVellis. "Sure it’s nice to have electricity but I would trade it for some grass right about now."

While two selectmen struggled to come to grips with Mother Nature's latest cruel joke against Foxborough, another was seeing green.

"The only one making out on this is Mark Sullivan, who is fixing Lisa and Jeff Downs' leaky roof today," DeVellis said.

DeVellis said the decision takes effect immediately, forcing Foxborough to go back to a three-member board in the interim.

"We will send a postcard," DeVellis said.

Asked to elaborate on the hasty decision, DeVellis responded, "Foxborough needs to laugh once in a while."

Mission accomplished, Jim.

Rest easy Foxborough, DeVellis is only kidding. He and Walsh are still running for re-election and will be on the ballot come April 30.
