New Poll Gives Warren 6-Point Advantage Over Brown; Obama Leads in State by 14 Points

A new poll from Public Policy Polling (PPP) shows increased support for Elizabeth Warren but a decrease in support for President Barack Obama.

The poll of 1,051 likely Massachusetts voters gives Warren a 50 percent to 44 percent lead over Senator Scott Brown, the largest yet for Warren in polling done by PPP. The margin of error is +/- 3 percent.

Based on the poll, Brown's approval ratings are decreasing. Down a net 14 points from last month's PPP poll, 49 percent of voters approve of the job Senator Brown is doing while 42 percent disapprove. Last month, his approval rating was at 55 percent and his disapproval rating was 34 percent.

Warren's favorable/unfavorable numbers continue to be close as 49 percent of those polled have a favorable view of Warren while 45 percent view her as unfavorable.

In the Presidential race, President Obama's lead in Massachusetts decreased from 18 points in last month's PPP poll to 14 points. The President now leads former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney 55 percent to 41 percent.

As for ballot questions, Question 2, which would allow a physician licensed in Massachusetts to prescribe medication to end the life of a terminally ill patient at their request, has the support of 56 percent of those polled while 30 percent oppose. 14 percent are undecided.

57 percent of those polled support Question 3, which would legalize the use of medical marijuana for qualifying patients. 31 percent do not support the question and 12 percent are undecided. 

Other results from the poll include 48 percent of voters approving of Governor Deval Patrick with 38 percent disapproving. 50 percent also think that Governor Patrick is a better Governor than Romney with 41 percent having the opposite opinion.

When asked to rate Senator John Kerry, 49 percent of those polled approved of Senator Kerry while 36 percent disapproved. Against a generic Republican opponent, Kerry leads 53 percent to 32 percent.
