Massachusetts Democrats Face Off In 1st US Senate Debate

Six Mass. Democrats face off in 1st US Senate debate.

The six Democratic U.S Senate candidates, looking to take on Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown next year, faced off in a debate Tuesday evening at the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.

The six Democratic candidates responded to questions on job creation and campaign viability, the Boston Herald reports. 

UMass-Lowell Chancellor Martin Meehan moderated the debate. The debate lasted approximately 90 minutes, as students asked questions in front of an audience of about 1,000 people.

The debate featured Wayland’s Tom Conroy, a state representative in his third term, Brookline’s Alan Khazei, co-founder of the nonprofit City Year, Marisa DeFranco, Bob Massie, Herb Robinson and front-runner Elizabeth Warren, a Harvard Law professor.

According to the Boston Herald, Warren, who has become the Democratic front-runner since announcing her Senate campaign two weeks ago, struck a more moderate tone in comparison to the other candidates.

Warren also noted that her life's work has always been about America's Middle Class.
