Gaming Commission Seeks Public Input for ‘Surrounding Communities’ Regulation

A meeting between Foxborough’s selectmen and the state’s Gaming Commission has been set for Feb. 26 to give the town a better understanding of what it means to be a “surrounding community” to a gaming site – potentially Plainridge Racecourse in Plainville – and what rights that community has an abutter.

Coincidentally, the Gaming Commission is asking the public to help further define the term, “surrounding communities.”

According to the state’s website, the Gaming Commission discussed a draft regulation defining the term, “surrounding communities” and decided at its Jan. 17 meeting to “solicit public comment on the draft document” (see PDF in photo gallery above).  

According to the Commission’s webpage, “the draft regulation is planned to be included in regulations to be promulgated by the Commission later this year, after a required public hearing process.”

The Commission says it will consider any comments it receives before a meeting in early February to further discuss the regulation. Comments must be submitted by e-mail to mgccomments@state.ma.us with “Surrounding Communities” in the subject line. Deadline for submission is Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.
