Gaming Commission Seeks Public Input for ‘Surrounding Communities’ Regulation

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is asking the public for comments regarding its draft regulation to further define “surrounding communities.”

A meeting between Foxborough’s selectmen and the state’s Gaming Commission has been set for Feb. 26 to give the town a better understanding of what it means to be a “surrounding community” to a gaming site – potentially Plainridge Racecourse in Plainville – and what rights that community has an abutter.

Coincidentally, the Gaming Commission is asking the public to help further define the term, “surrounding communities.”

According to the state’s website, the Gaming Commission discussed a draft regulation defining the term, “surrounding communities” and decided at its Jan. 17 meeting to “solicit public comment on the draft document” (see PDF in photo gallery above).

According to the Commission’s webpage, “the draft regulation is planned to be included in regulations to be promulgated by the Commission later this year, after a required public hearing process.”

The Commission says it will consider any comments it receives before a meeting in early February to further discuss the regulation. Comments must be submitted by e-mail to mgccomments@state.ma.us with “Surrounding Communities” in the subject line. Deadline for submission is Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.

TELL US: Are you concerned about being a surrounding community to a potential gaming site in Plainville? Tell us in the comments section!

Wow, I sure hope this doesn't bring thugs and ruffians to our community. Good thing we voted gaming down in Foxboro and prevent it from entering our town. This way it will be all the way over in Plainville where it belongs. Way to pass up a huge source of revenue Foxboro.

Great comment Steve C! I couldn't agree with you more. Even our precious Governor is trying to get on the gambling bandwagon. Why let other States glean all the revenue from sinful indulgences? Foxboro could have increased its revenue ten fold. But No, the powers that be would rather bicker with our single highest source of revenue and cling to some resemblance of "Small Town". Small town does not live East of Worcester anymore. Hey I know lets just raise taxes again.

I do hope that people get a copy of the bill and read it and not depend on others to tell them what is written. Because people who are working as a astro-turf group( a group being paid by a lobbyist to spread false information) do not like it when you point out the falsehood they spread. Plus they only . like people who agree with them If foxboro does get any money something is better then none

Janet, Would you please enlighten us on who these "others" spreading "falsehood" are, along with who belongs to this "astro-turf" cabal conspiracy ? Thanks.

Ken B. First why not use real name? If you know anything about beacon hill you know that lobbyist are paid to get a astro-turf groups to spread false truth about things. They look for someone who knows a person in company that wants to put a business in a place that they want in. Now what two groups are the astro-turf you think hard and they are ones who get annoyed when you do not agree with them and when you question them on something. I am sure you know who they are
Ken B. February 02, 2013 at 02:10 AM
No Janet, I don't know who they are. Why won't you tell us who they are ?

Actually, maybe I should be concerned...... I never considered that with the mismanagement of the state drug lab, health inspectors failing to inspect, unsafe public safety commissioners, a probation department run amok, $100K plus state pensions, rampant welfare and EBT card abuse, illegals killing citizens, and a governor who wants to tax us back to the stone age, that what an "astro-turf cabal" is doing is waaayyyy more important to all of us. Guess I have to shift my priorities around.
