Foxborough's Meet the Candidates Night: Planning Board

Meet Foxborough Planning Board candidate John Rhoads.

The Foxboro Jacyees held their annual candidates night forum on Thursday, April 14.

Candidate night allows those running for elected office the opportunity to state why they deserve the community's vote.

The event featured the three candidates running for two seats on the planning board. Incumbent William “Bill” Grieder and appointed member John Rhoads were both live in the Foxborough Cable Access building. Challenger Shannon L. McLaughlin was unable to attend.

Candidate Night statement from Planning Board candidate John Rhoads:

I would like to say good evening to the residents of Foxborough. My name is John Rhoads. I have lived in Foxborough since 1992 and I believe it is a wonderful community. I am married with 3 adult children. I have been an associate member of the Planning Board for the past 2 years as appointed by the Board of Selectmen. I am seeking a full 3 year term as a full member of the board this upcoming election.

I am interested in serving because I think it is time for me to give something back to the community. I come from a civil engineering background. I worked in the business for approximately 40 years and it is a broad based experience delving into municipal engineering and public works improvement projects and for approximately the past 25 years of my civil engineering career I have dealt with land development projects which frequently had to be brought before town agencies and commissions including Planning Boards for approval. So I  bring a unique perspective to the position of being a Planning Board member.

With both the ability to understand the engineering and to a certain extent "sat on the other side of the table presenting the projects," I believe that is a unique ability and I wish to share that with the community. I am interested in serving for 3 years. I have enjoyed the 2 years I have served as an associate member. The board is constituted today as a good strong broad and I believe we have served the community well today as a board. That concludes my opening statement.
