Foxborough Selectmen Will Not Renew Town Manager Kevin Paicos' Contract

The board announced a "mutual decision" with Kevin Paicos not to renew the town manager's contract beyond 2014 following nearly two-and-a-half hours of deliberation in executive session Wednesday.

After nearly two-and-a-half hours of discussion in executive session Wednesday, Foxborough’s Board of Selectmen emerged with a decision regarding the status of Town Manager Kevin Paicos’ contract.

“The Foxborough Board of Selectmen and Town Manager Kevin Paicos have mutually agreed not to pursue a contract for Mr. Paicos to serve as the Foxborough town manager beyond June 30, 2014,” said BOS chair Mark Sullivan. … “That’s all we have.”

The board promptly adjourned following Sullivan’s announcement.

Wednesday’s meeting was called into executive session just minutes after opening to the public at 7:30 p.m. The purpose of the executive session, according to the agenda, was for the board to discuss strategy for negotiations with non-union personnel. It is in that session where the mutual decision was believed to have been made not to renew Paicos' contract.

The decision comes 22 days after selectmen agreed to give Paicos a 2 percent raise following a performance review that deemed the third-year town manager “met the board’s expectations” in FY13.

Paicos is set to enter the fourth and final year of his contract on July 1. In order for the board to effectively not renew Paicos' contract beyond FY14, it had to give the town manager one year’s written notice by June 30.

That notice became public Wednesday.
