Foxborough Selectmen's Notebook: Police, Fire Overtime Plan on Future Agenda

Foxborough selectmen allowed Piccadilly Pub to keep its liquor license while they attempt a sale.

 

The Foxborough Selectmen had a busy agenda in Tuesday's meeting.

-Piccadilly Pub was allowed to keep its liquor license as they attempt to sell the business at 25 Foxborough Boulevard.

The company gave the town a check for $13,199.09, Tuesday, according to town manager Kevin Pacios, who said, “it didn’t pay all of it.” He estimated there was still in the neighborhood of $20,000. With the liquor license in tack, Piccadilly Pub is expected to have an easier time selling the property.

The board will review the case in 60 days. Piccadilly Pub is expected to pay what they owe the town.

Selectman James DeVellis was absent from voting because of a work history with Piccadilly Pub.

-Piccadilly Pub appearance promoted a discussion of past due water bills.

Paicos said the Department of Public Works head Roger Hill is looking at being more aggressive in collecting overdue what bills.

“The overdue collection isn’t what it should be,” said Paicos, adding it was a top priority.

Selectman James DeVellis was absent from voting because of a work history with Piccadilly Pub.

 -The selectmen approved 17 New England Revolution games by a 5-0 vote.

Police chief Edward O’Leary said he didn’t have any objections to approving the schedule.

“The crowds we have been seeing primarily families and local youth related teams,” he said. “I don’t perceive any public safety problems.”

The schedule request was also supported by fire chief and the Foxborough Stadium Advisory Committee.

Dan Murphy of the Kraft Organization, said there are 17 games scheduled for Gillette Stadium.

“We expect 12,000 season ticket holders,” said Murphy, “which is slightly down.”

Any addition international matches will have to be approved separately.

-Selectmen accepted bond refunding by a 5-0 that will save the town more than $713,000 over the life of the loans until 2014.

“I had nothing to do with this,” said Paicos, praising Randy Scollins, the town’s chief financial officer for his work in lowering the interest rates.

“This is outstanding achievement not too many towns can obtain.

“The real accomplishment was maintaining the Double AA rating,” In the ecomoney is also outstanding for town financial management team.”

“This is pretty outstanding stuff. This is a pretty big deal.”

-At the next selectmen’s meeting, the board will hear a report from Paicos about overtime for police and fire department.

It will be first airing of the police and fire department overtime project.

Paicos said it will be the first time the unions will be hearing the proposal.

-The committee voted 5-0 to accepted a $2,500 grant from the ASPCA to Foxboro Animal Control Office for purchasing crates and carriers to be used for disaster prepardness.

-Voted 5-0 to accept a $5,000 from the Executive Office of Public Safety & Security to be used to fund prevention and early invention of underage alcohol abuse program.

-Voted 5-0 to approve the acceptance of a gift of $300 from the Foxboro Lions Club to the Boyden Library Gift Fund.

-Approved Philip Thomas to the Playing Fields Committee to represent Foxboro Midget Football for a term that expires on May 1, 2012.

-By a 5-0 vote reappointed Frederick J. Jones of The Jones Group as a constable for the Town of Foxborough for a three-year term.

-Selectmen also approved by a 5-0 vote on the Sharon Triathlon request to go through some Foxborough neighborhoods on Aug. 12.

-The selectmen will meet tonight (Wednesday) to go over the budget from 6-7 p.m. before joining the advisory board for their meeting at 7 p.m.
