Foxborough Police Contract Approved

Officers will go without salary increases this year and get three-percent next year.

Foxborough police officers will go without a raise until June 30, 2012 as part of a collective bargaining argument with the town. Instead, the officers will opt for a three-percent increase, starting on July 1, 2012. The article passed by a 120-22 vote.

Officers were on a six-step plan. Those on the final step will receive a 1-percent increase. The town is also expected to fund 90-percent of the Quinn Bill, which allowed officers to further their education and increase their salaries.

Foxborough firefighters, highway department and library staff had the articles concerning their contracts postponed because the town has just started the discussions on a new agreement.

Town manager Kevin Paicos defended the officers right to work overtime and pointed out that Foxborough’s salaries have to be line with the other areas.

“We can’t retain or replace good officers (if they aren't),” said the town manager.

“If a police officer chooses the opportunity to work overtime, good for him and good for his family.”
