Casino Zoning Changes Drafted by Kraft Lawyer [POLL]

Foxborough's Town Manager Kevin Paicos asked for the changes. Board of Selectmen voted 5 to 0 against bringing the zoning change to Town Meeting.

A draft of zoning changes for Foxborough by a lawyer for the Kraft Group is raising the idea that the Kraft family could play a role in the State's gambling plans, the Boston Globe reports.

A lawyer for the Kraft Group drafted zoning changes for the town that would have paved the way for casino gambling. The zoning changes were then submitted to Foxborough's Town Manager, Kevin Paicos. Paicos requested the changes and brought the issue to the Board of Selectmen and the town's Planning Board. The Board of Selectmen voted 5 to 0 in September against bringing the to Town Meeting.

The Krafts have not ruled out possible interest in a casino, however it would be an uphill battle for the owners of the New England Patriots considering that the NFL rules bar franchises from owning casinos and that any casino developer would have to win approval in a local ballot before winning a license.

According to the Boston Globe, Stacey James, a Kraft spokesman, said they are not "going to limit ourselves to speculative comments on specific developments."

The Senate recently approved a bill that would allow three casinos and one slot-machine parlor in the Commonwealth, with the measure.
