American Flag Reportedly Stolen from Foxborough Town Common

The American flag that flies at Foxborough’s Town Common was reportedly stolen Friday night, according to Michael Johns, Deputy Director of the Crossroads Veterans’ Services District.

“I'm sad to report the U.S. flag on the Foxborough Common was stolen last night,” Johns said in an e-mail to town officials. “Upon reporting it, I was told the Fire Department was also broken into.”

It is unknown at this time if anything was taken from the old Foxborough Fire Station at the corner of School and Rockhill streets.

Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary was unable to be reached Saturday afternoon for comment.

Foxborough Board of Selectmen chair James DeVellis announced Friday the flag on the Common would fly at half-mast Saturday in memory of retired town treasurer/collector, Barbara Germaine, who passed away on Jan. 9 at the age of 75.

"The town of Foxborough will fly our Town Common American flag at half-mast on Saturday in recognition of the passing of Barbara Germaine and her many years of professional and personal service to town hall and our community," DeVellis Friday. "Barbara was our treasurer and collector for 23 years and we wanted to show this sign of respect and appreciation during her services."

Johns said the town will fly a replacement American flag at the Common on Saturday.
