5 Things: Deep Freeze Hits Foxborough, AdCom Talks Government Budgets, Important Flu Information & More

1. Deep Freeze Rolls into Foxborough Wednesday

Today’s weather in Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service based in Taunton, calls for mostly sunny, with a high near 18. Wind chill values as low as -12. West wind 10 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. Wednesday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 3. Wind chill values as low as -11. West wind around 11 mph.

2. Important Flu Information from Foxborough Board of Health

Flu vaccine continues to be widely available at doctors’ offices, health care providers and local pharmacies. Some community-based flu vaccination clinics are continuing to take place in the region. Search by city or town at www.mylocalclinic.com.

There are simple steps that everyone can take to prevent the spread of flu. Wash your hands often with soap and warm water. Cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow, not your hands. If you’re sick with the flu, stay home from school or work.

3. AdCom Meets to Discuss General Government Budgets

Foxborough’s Advisory Committee will meet Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Andrew Gala Meeting Room of Town Hall to discuss the following general government budgets:

• Planning
• Conservation
• General Government
• Debt Service
• Pension & Insurance

AdCom will also discuss the proposed Municipal Housing Trust.

4. Patriot Place Events:

• Second Round of 2013 Pond Hockey Tournament: Third Annual Pond Hockey Tournament at Winter Skate at Patriot Place – Foxboro Presented by Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare is taking place from now thru Jan. 26 with multiple competitive divisions.
  The tournament takes place the week between the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl XLVII on Patriot Place’s Outdoor Refrigerated Rink. Weeknight games are played under the lights. Each team can roster up to 10 players. The league is a no-check men’s tournament with four players on the ice at one time. Games consist of two 15-minute halves. All teams play a minimum of three games.
• 6:30 p.m. - Tastings Wine Bar & Bistro 2013 Wine and Dine series: Tastings is kicking off its 2013 Wine & Dine Series with a very special night of incredible art from renowned artist Thomas Arvid, wine from Michael David Winery, and expertly paired food from Tastings' super-talented Executive Chef, Ben Lacy. Cost is $85 per person.

5. Information Session on Emergency Psychiatric Services

Susan (Burton) Keays, LICSW, Program Director, Emergency Services of Riverside Community Care in Norwood, will review the scope of services offered by Riverside Community Care during a free information session at the Foxborough Public Safety Building at 7 p.m.

Among many other services, Riverside provides a Mobile Crisis Intervention Team. The program provides 24 hour-7-day a week mobile psychiatric emergency services. They offer round the clock telephone assistance and face-to-face crisis interventions in a variety of mobile locations, including schools. The staff is comprised of masters and doctoral level clinicians, psychiatrists and family partners, all with expertise in youth treatment.

The Mobile Crisis Intervention (MCI) team provides services to youth (under 21) who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis with a mobile, face-to-face response. Our team can meet with youth and their families at one of our three community-based locations or we can travel to homes, schools, and other locations with the goal of avoiding a hospital emergency room visit and unnecessary hospitalizations.

The MCI team remains involved with the family for up to a week for continued crisis intervention and to help the family connect with on-going behavioral health services and supports. The MCI services are for youth under the age of 21 who have MassHealth Managed Care Plans, as well as those who are uninsured.
