Man Arrested Who Fled Crash in Foxborough, Charged With OUI-7th Offense

Massachusetts State Troopers arrested a Taunton man in Foxborough and charged him with his seventh drunk driving offense.

Massachusetts State Troopers late Friday afternoon arrested a Taunton man and charged him with his seventh drunk driving offense after the man rear-ended another car on Route 495 in Foxborough and then tried to flee.  

According to State Police, Trooper Anthony Fabiano found Howard Stockbridge, 50, walking through a parking lot at 77 Green St. (Route 106) in Foxboro at 5:32 p.m. after a nearly 40 minute search by State Police. Trooper Fabiano detected an odor of alcohol coming from Stockbridge and observed that his eyes appeared glassy. When asked where he was coming from, Stockbridge stated “that gym” and pointed to a nearby fitness center.
 
Trooper Fabiano placed Stockbridge into custody and took him to the State Police Barracks in Foxboro to be processed.
 
State Police recieved a call, approximately 40 minutes earlier, reporting a rear-end crash on Route 495 northbound in Foxborough. One call was placed from a Rhode Island man whose 2011 Kia Sorrento had been hit by a pickup truck operated by a white male. The pickup truck had fled the scene.
 
Witnesses provided State Police with the truck’s Massachusetts registration number. The truck was registered to a Taunton woman, and after a search of the Registry of Motor Vehicles database, Police located Stockbridge as residing at the same address as the registered owner.
 
According to State Police, the fleeing pickup truck became disabled, and the driver had run into the woods along Route 106.
 
State troopers began their search, meanwhile the crash victim involved positively identified Stockbridge to Trooper William Langmead as the man who had struck his car.
 
Four empty beer bottles in a cooler on the passenger side floor and a cold but empty beer bottle on the passenger seat were located inside of the disabled pickup truck.

The search for Stockbridge culminated with Trooper Fabiano finding him walking through the parking lot.
 
Stockbridge was taken to the Foxboro barracks. Troopers determined that the appropriate operating under the influence offense as OUI-7th offense, and also determined that Stockbridge's was under a 10-year license revocation for a previous drunk driving conviction.

Stockbridge was charged with the following: Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, 7th Offense; Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash; Operating after Revocation (for Prior OUI); Possession of Alcohol in an Open Container While Driving; and Following too Closely.

Stockbridge is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in the Wrentham District Court.
