Of the crashes reported in 2012, 305 involved injury and two resulted in fatalities.

“One of the fatal crashes took place on Commercial Street near Walnut Street on an early Saturday morning,” O’Leary stated in the report. “The young driver and the surviving passenger had stopped at the Shell station at around 3:30 a.m., where the young driver left her wallet. Her vehicle was headed back to the station where, at a high speed, she lost control of her vehicle, which rolled over and hit a tree. High speed and lack of driving experience were causative factors. The young female operator died, and her passenger received severe injuries.”

The second fatal crash occurred in June, involving a van and a motorcycle in the area of Central and Leonard streets.

“A young man driving a van entered Central Street from Leonard and was crossing over to Leonard Place,” O’Leary stated in the report. “He had not seen a motorcycle traveling south on Central Street. The motorcycle crashed into the side of the van, killing the operator and severely injuring the rider (his wife). The young man was charged with motor vehicle homicide as a result of an investigation with the District Attorney’s Office.”
