UPDATED: State Police Say Driver Suffered Electric Shock in I-95 Accident in Attleboro Thursday

One tractor trailer driver suffered an electric shock and at least four other passenger cars were damaged during Thursday's accident involving power lines on I-95 in Attleboro, according to Massachusetts State Police.

CORRECTION (Friday, Aug. 17 at 7:54 a.m.) – The man injured in Thursday's accident on I-95 in Attleboro suffered an electric shock and is alive though his condition is unknown at this time. A previous version of this press release stated the driver injured in Thursday's accident was electrocuted, which is incorrect.

For reasons that remain under investigation, power lines across the northbound and southbound sides of Route 95 sagged. At this time a tractor trailer traveling north on Route 95 struck the power lines and stopped. A second tractor trailer traveling south on Route 95 also struck the power lines and stopped.

The operator of the tractor trailer traveling on the northbound side exited the truck and suffere an electric shock. He was transported by ambulance to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. His condition is not known at this time and his identity is being withheld at this time.

The operator of the tractor trailer traveling on the southbound side was not injured. He has been identified as David Meltz, 55, of Prospect Hill, North Carolina.

At least four other passenger cars were damaged during this incident. All lanes of Route 95 both north and south were reopened at 5:30 p.m. The investigation is ongoing at this time.
