Police Searching for Thieves Who Stole Money from Area Hockey Rinks

The two suspects have reportedly stolen money and car keys from hockey players at three area hockey rinks, including the Foxboro Sports Center.

Police are on the lookout for two male suspects who have reportedly stole money and car keys from the locker rooms of three area hockey rinks.

The two men allegedly entered the Iorio Arena on Route 1 in Walpole on Sunday, Dec. 30 and stole between $200 and $300 in cash from locker rooms while hockey players were on the ice, according to Walpole police. The men were last seen wearing hooded sweatshirts and winter jackets, according to Walpole Patch.

“We have them on film. They go in and out of the locker rooms and take basically just cash and nothing else,” Iorio office manager Cathy Harrop told Walpole Patch.

Walpole Deputy Police Chief John Carmichael said the thieves also stole a set of car keys, which they then used to steal money from a vehicle, according to Walpole Patch.

"They used keys to access a vehicle in the lot, left the vehicle in the lot with the keys inside," Carmichael said.

Channel 5 WCVB reported a similar incident recently occurred at the Foxboro Sports Center but Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary had no further information beyond Channel 5’s report.

“I can’t find anything in our log about any thefts at the Sports Center,” O’Leary said. “I did hear it on the TV news but I cannot find any record [of the incident]. I took a look at the last three weeks for any thefts there.”

That’s not to say an incident did not occur at the Foxborough ice rink, it just wasn’t reported to police.

On Wednesday, Steve Coote, founder of Square Foot Management and Consulting Inc. in Foxborough, took to Twitter to report a similar incident had occurred Tuesday night at the Canton Sports Complex.

“Help us catch these thieves,” Coote wrote. “Canton Sports Complex locker rooms robbed last night during hockey games.”

Police do not have any suspects and are asking for the public's help in identifying the two men, according to Walpole Patch. Rob Barletta, owner of the Iorio Arena, is offering a reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to an arrest of the suspects.
