Police: Roused From Sleeping in Car, Foxboro Man Assaults Braintree Officers

By Joseph Markman
A 24-year-old Foxborough man was arrested on New Year's Day when he allegedly assaulted Braintree police officers who awakened him behind Buy Buy Baby.

Daniel M. Pitts was sleeping in the back seat of a car behind the Granite Street store at 7 a.m. Wednesday, causing a report of suspicious activity to be called in to police, Chief Russell Jenkins said in a statement.

Responding officers found two occupants in a car behind two storage trailers. The store manager had asked them to leave but they refused, Jenkins said.

"Officers initially encountered Pitts, who was sleeping in the back seat and attempted to question him," Jenkins said. "Pitts was uncooperative and refused to exit the vehicle.

"While officers attempted to remove Pitts from the vehicle, he fought with the officers and continued to resist after being placed on the ground. A third officer arrived to assist and, together, the officers were able to take Pitts into custody.

"He was charged with trespassing, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault and battery on a police officer. One of the officers sustained minor injuries to both his hands."
