UPDATED: Police Arrest Father in Alleged Kidnapping of His Two Children

UPDATE (Tuesday, 6:30 a.m.) - Two Braintree children who were allegedly kidnapped Monday afternoon were found safe late Monday night.

Braintree and Massachusetts State Police issued an Amber Alert Monday for the two children, who were found at a 7-11 in South Windsor, Conn., according to updates from state police. Both appeared to be fine, according to the updates. 

Police were able to locate the children after a trucker found the vehicle they were reportedly traveling in as it exited Rte. I-84 in South Windsor, according to MSP. Connecticut State Police then responded to the area with cruisers and located the children.

The Amber Alert was issued shortly before 10 p.m. Monday, after police began searching for the children and their father, John T. Lockwood, 54, who checked out of a Foxborough hotel earlier in the day, allegedly drove off with the children in a brown, 2005 BMW 525i, according to Braintree Police Chief Russell Jenkins said. Lockwood is now in custody, according to a Twitter update from Braintree Police

Several neighbors told police that they heard a commotion at around 4:30 p.m. and came outside to see Lockwood leaving with his children, a boy and girls.

Police said Lockwood forcibly took his son Patrick, an 8-year-old Asian male whose full name is My Tri Nguyen, and ordered his daughter Sarah, a 10-year-old Asian female whose full name is Tien Nhu My Nguyen, into the car. Patrick's foster mother tried to stop Lockwood from taking Patrick but failed in a tug-of-war for custody, Jenkins said.

UPDATE (Monday, 11:30 p.m.) - Braintree police tweeted at 11:30 p.m. Monday that John T. Lockwood had been taken into custody and his son Patrick, and daughter, Sarah, were safe, according to WHDH-TV. Lockwood's vehicle was stopped in Windsor, Conn.

(Original Story) - Massachusetts State Police have activated an Amber Alert for the abduction of two children in Braintree allegedly kidnapped by their father Monday afternoon from their foster home, according to police.

John T. Lockwood, 54, with a last known address at a Foxboro hotel, drove off shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday with the children in a brown, 2005 BMW 525i with Massachusetts registration 478RF8.

Braintree Police responded to a report of a parental kidnapping at 196 Hawthorne Rd. in Braintree at approximately 4:30 p.m., according to state police.

"A preliminary investigation has revealed that [Lockwood] allegedly entered the foster home of his two children and forcibly removed them," state police said.

The description of the children, according to state police:

  • An 8-year-old Asian male named Patrick Nguyen last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a neon yellow T-shirt.
  • A 10-year-old Asian female named Sarah Nguyen last seen wearing blue jean shorts and a blue and purple T-shirt with a mermaid on the front.

Photographs of both children are attached to this article. No photograph was available of Lockwood.

Patrick's foster mother tried to stop Lockwood from taking Patrick but failed in a tug-of-war for custody, Braintree Police told Patch.

Lockwood checked out of the Foxboro hotel and his whereabouts are unknown, according to Braintree Police.
