Norwood Residents Arrested After Police Search Found Pounds of Marijuana

The search warrants were issued in an investigation by DA Morrissey's office and turned up over 20 lbs. of marijuana and $110,000 at three locations including Foxborough and Plainville.

A joint investigation by Norfolk DA Michael Morrissey’s drug task force and police from Norwood and other area towns resulted in the arrest of two Norwood residents Monday morning, the District Attorney said Tuesday.

Police reported seizing about 20 pounds of a substance appearing to be marijuana and more than $110,000 cash in alleged drug currency at multiple locations, including a residence on Winslow Ave. in Norwood.

“This investigation began in September and involved officers from several area departments, state police officers assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, Troop H, and U.S. Postal Inspectors working together, conducting surveillance, and gathering information on an alleged drug distribution network in this area,” DA Morrissey said. “It culminated just after 7:15 a.m. Monday with search warrants being simultaneously executed at 60 Winslow Ave. #3 in Norwood, as well as locations in Foxborough, Norfolk and Plainville.”

When officers entered the apartment on Winslow Ave, they encountered what they believed to be 10 pounds of marijuana and more than $70,000. Police arrested Brittany Capece, age 23, and David Higgins, age 28, both residents of Norwood.

The two were arraigned on possession with intent to distribute a class D substance and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act on Monday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to those charges, Morrissey said.

The search also consisted of locations in Foxborough and Plainville. The search of 82 North Street in Foxborough yielded roughly seven pounds of a substance believed to be marijuana. The resident of that address, Robert Gately, was issued a summons to appear in the Wrentham District Court for possession with intent to distribute class D drugs. Also approximately $3,000 was seized from the 17 Chestnut Street location in Plainville. Two motor vehicles were also seized from that location.

Additional packages seized pursuant to the search warrants were opened and examined on Tuesday, Morrissey said, yielding several more pounds of pot and a large quantity of additional cash – bringing the total seizure to about $110,000 and more than 20 pounds of drugs.

“Also important here is that this operation was a very successful joint effort by a number of departments,” District Attorney Morrissey said. “Law enforcement works best when it works together, and I am thankful to the Franklin, Norfolk, Dedham, Plainville, Foxborough and Norwood police departments for their work here, as well as the State Police K9, officers from Troop H as well as the US Postal inspectors. This involved local, state and federal law enforcement.”

The defendants are due back at Dedham District Court for pre-trial conference on December 6.
