Hernandez Probable Cause Hearing Delayed, More Warrants to be Released

The Bristol County District Attorney’s office will have more time to show evidence to a grand jury after judge Daniel O’Shea allowed a probable cause hearing for Aaron Hernandez to be moved to Aug. 22

The D.A.’s office requested the continuation of the hearing because the grand jury has yet to see all the evidence to be presented. Additional evidence includes ammunition for a .45 -caliber Glock found inside a Franklin apartment rented by Hernandez and in a Hummer. Hernandez’s fingerprints were also found on the boxes and on the shifter in the hummer.

Attorneys for Hernandez objected to the continuation, arguing that their client was already in jail for almost a month and deserves to have the hearing.

“We are extremely upset that the Commonwealth was not prepare to go forward today with a probable cause hearing,” attorney Charles Rankin said. “He’s (Hernandez) now been in jail for 28 days with out any chance for his lawyers to question a single witness, to examine documents, to go forward with a hearing.

While O’Shea agreed four weeks is a long time, he also considered that this is a murder case before approving the continuation.

In addition, O'Shea approved the release of two arrest warrants and search warrants that were compounded. The documents will be released at 3 p.m. on July 25 unless someone appeals.
