Hatfield Gets 3 More Years as Fire Chief

After a late discussion Tuesday night, the Board of Selectmen voted to renew the contract of Foxborough Fire Chief Richard Hatfield for three years with an option to extend the contract for two more.

Starting on Jan. 1, his salary will increase from $126,270 to $130,778.

The vote to give Hatfield a new contract was 3-2 with Ginny Coppola and Lorraine Brue voting no.

While no one wanted Hatfield out as chief, there was concern about his use of a town vehicle when he is in Norwell visiting his fiance. Hatfield said however, that he spends most weekends in Foxborough covering events at the stadium.

The majority of board members felt that letting him use the vehicle to get to Norwell allows him to get to Foxborough faster in case of an emergency.

Hatfield, who was hired as the fire chief in 2009, currently lives in Foxborough and is requiered by his contract to live within 15 miles of the town.
