Foxborough Police Investigating Overnight Break-In of Route 1 Dunkin' Donuts

Suspects reportedly got away with "a large jar of change" and damaged the restaurant's drive-thru window.

Foxborough police are investigating a break-in that occurred overnight at the 16 Washington St. Dunkin’ Donuts on Route 1.

An alarm company notified police of the break-in, reporting the restaurant’s motion detector and cash office alarms were triggered just after 2 a.m. Tuesday, according to Foxborough Police Chief Edward O’Leary.

“Upon arrival, an officer saw the drive-thru window had been smashed out and they initiated a search of the immediate area,” O’Leary said.

Foxborough received assistance from Walpole police and a K-9 unit, which was able to track a scent to Meadowview Road, according to O’Leary.

“The dog did attract a scent over to the Meadowview Road area, which is behind the Dunkin’ Donuts site but then lost the track there,” O’Leary said.

The store’s manager was alerted of the incident and arrived on scene to assist police with the initial investigation.

“The manager came in and [police Sgt.] John Chamberlin met with him and they reviewed the internal video system,” O’Leary said.

The suspects, according to O’Leary, are described as two males who were wearing hoodies and black ski masks. O’Leary said they reportedly left the Dunkin’ Donuts with “a large jar of change.”

“Neither of their faces were visible [from the video footage],” O’Leary said.

While there are currently no leads in the investigation, O’Leary recalled a similar break-in attempt at Route 1 Liquor Mart earlier this year.

“I know that on one of the breaks on Route 1 Liquor Mart that [the suspects] actually did not make it into the building but fractured the glass,” O’Leary said. “There were two individuals involved and one of them was using a crowbar.”

Sgt. Chamberlin and officer Shawn Buckley will be assisting Foxborough detectives in the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident should contact Foxborough Police at (508) 543-4343.
