Foxboro Man Accused of Multiple Assault Charges in Mansfield Bar Attack

A Foxboro man is accused of multiple assault charges after allegedy fighting another man in a Mansfield bar.

James E. Smally, 45, of 28 Morse St. pleaded innocent yesterday to assault with intent to murder, domestic assault and battery, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and disturbing the peace during an arraignment hearing at Attleboro District Court according to the Sun Chronicle.

According to police, Smally became upset when an Easton man started talking to his wife while at the Catman Cafe in downtown Mansfield. He then pushed her off a bar stool and attacked the man with a hammer before other patrons and a bartender intervened.

Winesses told police that Smally took the hammer from his waste area and hit the victim with the claw side.

Smally's wife suffered red marks from when she was forced off her barstool and the male was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton..

Judge Robert Harbour ordered Smally to be held in jail on $3,000 bail or 30,000 surety. He is due back in court on Dec. 24
