(7:10 p.m.): Three Foxborough Post 93 American Legion baseball players were transported to the hospital Monday evening for injuries suffered in a “serious” head-on collision at the intersection of Main and Pierce Streets on Route 140, according to Foxborough Fire/Rescue.

Two of the four victims involved in the two-car crash were medflighted to Boston Medical, according to Foxborough Fire/Rescue Captain Edward J. Noonan.

“We medflighted the driver of one vehicle to Boston Medical,” Noonan said. “The passenger of the other vehicle we medflighted to Boston Medical.”

The other two victims were taken to hospitals for treatment, according to Noonan.

“One driver did go to Rhode Island Trauma Center and another passenger in one vehicle went to the hospital,” Noonan said “Three out of one vehicle and one person [from the other were transported to hospitals].”

Noonan said the crash happened around 5 p.m. on Route 140 and it appeared the three members of the Foxboro Post 93 American Legion baseball team involved in the crash were headed to a 5:45 p.m. game in Franklin.

“All the teammates were there [at the scene], visibly upset and shaken by the incident but they all did a good job and supported their teammates,” Noonan said.

One victim suffered head trauma and another suffered closed chest trauma, according to emergency reports. The condition of the two victims medflighted to Boston remain unknown at this time.

Noonan added the cause of the head-on collision, which required the Jaws of Life, two medflights and three ambulances is unknown at this time. The medflights landed on Gillette Stadium’s practice field to transport the victims.

“Unknown on the cause [of the crash] or why it happened,” Noonan said. “We were there for traumatic injuries requiring the medflight and [entrapment of] one victim [requiring the Jaws of Life]. That was the extent of our job.”

Noonan said within 20 minutes of responding to the scene, all four victims were being transported to hospitals.

Noonan said they will await a follow-up on the conditions of the four victims.

“We will get a follow-up from the hospitals, especially from the medflights, on the status of the patients and the eventual outcome but hopefully everything works out well for them,” Noonan said.
