First Cards, Now a Party: Emergency Services Celebrate Danny Nickerson’s 6th Birthday

Danny is battling an aggressive form of cancer and will turn 6 on Saturday.

A 5-year-old Foxborough boy battling an aggressive form of cancer had one wish: to receive a bunch of birthday cards.

Now, Danny Nickerson is also being given a birthday party to remember. On Saturday morning, police and fire officials from around the region will gather at Gillette Stadium for a "public safety" themed 6th Birthday Party.

The party will run from 9 a.m. til noon and guests will include Burlington Police Sergeant Gerard McDonough (Organizer), Danny Nickerson and his Family and Police and Fire Officials from around New England.

At around 7:30 a.m. there will be upwards of 200 police, fire, and EMS vehicles meeting at Shaw's Plaza in Sharon prior to heading out to Gillette Stadium.

Danny’s request for birthday cards blew up online and Foxborough Post Office is now crammed with 8,000 cards and four pallets of toys from well wishers,the Boston Herald reports.

Danny has received over 30 chemotherapy treatments since he was diagnosed with an inoperable, chemotherapy-resistant brain tumor in October.

His mother said the boy is a big fan of LEGOs and Super Mario.
