Body Found off Mechanic Street in Foxborough

No foul play is suspected by police. The public isn't in any danger.

It was a heavy police presence at the conservation land off Mechanic Street Tuesday afternoon, as Police investigated the area where an abandoned car was reported.

The investigation soon turned tragic as Police, also searching for a reported missing person, found a 50-year-old man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot in a forested area.

The body was found approximately 1,000 yards off of Mechanic Street by Police tracking dogs.

The search for a missing person in Foxborough began after Police received a call around noontime Tuesday from a concerned family member about the man's well being.

"After officers received a call, they went over to check where the man lived and to gather more information on his well being," said Police Chief Edward O'Leary.

According to Chief O'Leary, more Police units were sent on the lookout for the man's vehicle which was found on a conversation property off Mechanic Street.

Shortly after, the man's body was located by Police tracking dogs and the Norfolk District Attorney's Office was called in.

Foul play is not suspected and the public is not in any danger. As of Wednesday morning, the investigation is on-going. The victim's name is being withheld.

Many Foxborough residents took to Twitter last evening to extend their condolences to the victim and his family.
