What Should Replace the Old Foxborough Fire Station?

What would you like to see done with the old Foxborough Fire Station in the center of town?

Drive around Foxborough long enough and you’re bound to see an empty storefront or vacant building.

But do you ever stop to envision what could move into town to fill that opening in town?

We do and now we are asking you in our continuing series, "Visions for Vacancies." We'll showcase an empty storefront or building and ask you what should take up the space. This is your place to sound off and have your say about local businesess and open spaces.

This week, we turn our attention to a building on a prominent corner in downtown Foxborough – the old Foxborough Fire Station on the corner School and Rockhill streets.

The Foxborough Fire Department left the old fire station for the Public Safety Building on Chestnut Street in 2006.

So Foxborough, we want to know ... what would you like to see replace the old fire station on the corner of School and Rockhill streets? Let us know in the comments section below!

How about a restaurant, such as in Newport. Or maybe a B&B.

I always thought this spot would be good for a restaurant like Tastings (Patriot Place) that specialized in gourmet and wine, but would only open for dinner Wednesday thru Sunday like Moulin Rouge does in Tiverton, Rhode Island. However, it wouldn't be worth the hassle with the town and church people freaking out over a liquor liscense request.

This would make a terrific co-op for handcrafted goods with a crafters studio with lessons. (Maybe metalworking?) On the street level would be a relaxing bistro, behind the bistro would be shopping for beautiful handcrafted gifts, home decor, jewelry, etc.. High end items such as metalworking items. The only other metalworking studios around that I know about are in Walpole and Boston - oh, there is another one up north somewhere as well. There is a small studio on the cape. I think that a lots of South Shore folks would be happy to take classes in Foxboro.

Oops, I meant to say Waltham, not Walpole.
