Smith: A Letter to Foxborough From Your New Local Editor

Here's a brief introduction of Jeremie Smith, Foxborough Patch's new Local Editor.

Good morning Foxborough,

Or is it Foxboro? but as town historian Jack Authelet says, "from the time our town was incorporated in 1778 until the present, we are a municipality with a dual identity, Foxborough and Foxboro, and we wear both names proudly. One is official (and to some, preferred), and the other more a matter of convenience, familiarity and habit, perhaps, but no less respectful."

No matter how you spell it, I'm excited to arrive in town and serve as your local Patch editor. Before we get started, allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Jeremie Smith and for the past 18 months, I have served as the Local Editor of Medfield Patch . I enjoyed my time in Medfield but am looking forward to getting involved in Foxborough and meeting your news and information needs while providing you a community platform to get involved and interact with your neighbors.

Prior to my time in Medfield, I spent three years working as an editor for three newspapers in Connecticut. I was a local news editor for a small daily newspaper, The Bristol Press and the sports editor for a larger daily newspaper, The Middletown Press. I also served as managing editor for a weekly newspaper, The West Hartford News. In college, I earned my B.A. in journalism at Keene State College in Keene, N.H. – Class of 2008. At KSC, I served as both a sports reporter and sports editor for the student newspaper, The Equinox.

I wanted to be a journalist because I love to write and developed an affinity for discovering – and reporting on – the many aspects that make up a community. As I take over the operations of Foxborough Patch, I'm thrilled to be in town and am excited to get to know the community and report on events, issues and happenings that you care about!

Expect to see me in the coming weeks as I gather news and learn more about the town of Foxborough to bring you the highest quality news I can. I take great pride in my reporting and will work hard to make sure you can do the same. I expect my journalism experience will bring interesting, timely and unique stories to Foxborough residents.

OK, that's enough about me, I'm ready to provide you with quality news and can't wait to get started.

My Vacation Schedule ...

My first "official" day as Foxborough Patch's local editor is Monday, June 25, but I will be taking a short vacation from Wednesday, June 27 to Thursday, July 5. I am visiting family and friends in Alaska and will be unavailable for those 10 days. After that, I'm all yours and will be hitting the ground running upon my return to Foxborough. However, while I'm away, please feel free to e-mail me with any story ideas, suggestions or thoughts about the sites. I look forward to hearing from you. In my absence, Michael Hardman and Dan Libon will run the day-to-day operations.

Your New Local Editor,

Jeremie Smith
