Christmas is a time when many people decorate their mantels with favorite ornaments. Follow www.kirleymasonry.com as we count down to Christmas with "12 Days of Christmas Mantels".

For centuries, open fireplaces and fire pits were for the sole purpose of providing heat and for cooking food.

The idea of sitting around and enjoying the fireplace ambience was made popular by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt with his “fireside chats”. The weekly radio addresses took place during family time while relaxing by the fire. This revolutionized the idea of enjoying the fireplace rather than it being only for a functional purpose.

Fireplaces are often used as a supplimental heat source for many homes today. They also serve as the focal point of a home. Fireplaces display an array of designs, styles, finishes, and materials, and can be very simple or ornate. Masonry fireplaces commonly showcase natural stone, brick and manufactured stone. Mantels add character and an an opportunity to decorate and display portraits and accessories that create a personalized look.

Happy Holidays from your friends at Kirley Masonry & Stove Emporium.
