Obituary: Neil G. Benson

Neil Gunnar Benson, age 75, died Friday, November 1, 2013 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare Center in Norton. Husband of the late Barbara J. (Zacheus) Benson. He was the son of the late Gunnar and Ruth (Brask) Benson.

Neil was born in Attleboro on October 20, 1938 and has been a resident of Foxborough since 1973. He was a graduate of Attleboro High School, Class of 1956 and Northeastern University, Class of 1961, majoring in Engineering.

Neil worked for almost 40 years for the Foxboro Company and retired as plant manager in 2003. Originally an engineer, he did the architectural drawings for the family’s two homes built in Attleboro and Foxborough. He was a long time member of Bethany Congregational Church in Foxborough, where he served on the Financial Management committee, and was chairman of the Board of Trustees. He was a New England Patriots fan and season ticket holder for many years, and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed painting seascapes and boats, and raising rhododendrons and dogwoods. He was a loving and devoted father and grandfather.

Beloved father of Mark R. Benson of Norfolk, Brenda Jane Benson of Foxborough and Bethany L. Benson-Burns and her husband Jonathan of Huntingdon, PA. Loving grandfather of Neil A., Laura J. and Lily K. Benson of Norfolk. Brother of Rolf Benson and his wife Kathie of Attleboro and the late Joan Hagerman.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, November 7 from 4 to 8 PM at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South Street, Foxborough. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at Bethany Congregational Church, 3 Rockhill Street, Foxborough. For additional information please contact 508 543-5471.
