Korean War Vet Richard T. Madden, Sr. Dies at 80; Lived in Foxborough for 44 Years

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, June 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxborough.

Richard “Dick” Thomas Madden, Sr., age 80, died Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by the comfort of his loving family. He was the son of the late John Madden, Sr. and Clara (Firlotte) Madden.

Dick was born on Jan. 24, 1933 in Roxbury. After graduating from Roslindale High School, he proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. He married his wife Mary (Hoyt) on May 17, 1958 at Sacred Heart Church in Roslindale.

Dick was employed as a Master Plumber for the Local 12 Plumbers Union, Boston. He was a former Foxborough resident for 44 years. Dick was a member of the Combat Infantrymen’s Rifle Association. He loved to work, have breakfast at the Sunflower Café and playing the game of Sequence. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Dick was known to be generous, strong, and brave.

Devoted husband of Mary (Hoyt) Madden. Loving father of Marylou and husband John Saad Sr., Elizabeth and husband Philip Rayburg, Kathleen and husband Christopher Gomes, Ann Marie and husband Matthew Donovan, Christine and husband Michael Murphy and Richard Madden Jr. and wife Kathleen. Beloved grandfather of: Marissa, John Jr., Christine Saad; Dara, Lisa, Jami Rayburg; Ashley (Hammatt), Adam, Molly Gomes; Mary, Catherine, Grace Donovan; Madison and Alyssa Murphy; Kaitlin Beach, Samantha and Thomas Madden. Great grandfather of Tristan and Jameson Hammatt. Brother of Nancy Nelson Sabey of AL and Paul Madden of VA and the late Mary Stackhouse, Joan Gould, David Madden, John Madden Jr.

Funeral Information

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Wednesday, June 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxborough. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, 58 Carpenter St., Foxborough. Interment to follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
