Foxborough Resident Will Run The ING New York City Marathon for a Cure

Teresa Rizzo is running the NYC Marathon to raise funds for a cause that is close to her heart - Juvenile Diabetes.

Foxborough resident Teresa Rizzo has a running 'bucket list'; running being the keyword.

"I have always wanted to do a marathon, [it was on my bucket list]," said Rizzo.

However, Rizzo decided to do more than just run 26.2 miles; she decided to run for a cure.

After Rizzo's daughter was diagnosed with Juvenile Diabetes as a teenager, she knew she wanted to get involved in helping to find a cure by means of running the Boston Marathon.

Training for the grueling Boston Marathon was the least of Rizzo's worries. Raising funds that would go towards finding a cure for Juvenile Diabetes was at the top of her mind. She was able to raise funds through the United Kingdom Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which is the world's leading charitable funder of type 1 diabetes research.

A few years after completing the Boston Marathon, Rizzo decided to take on running a marathon and helping to find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes once again, but this time in New York City.

"I have always wanted to do the ING NYC Marathon," she said.

Rizzo is running the ING New York City Marathon in November and is currently raising money for the cause that is close to her heart - Juvenile Diabetes. All funds donated to Rizzo as a runner will go to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to support their mission of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

Rizzo's goal is to raise $3,500. Currently she has raised a little over $1,600. However, if you ask Rizzo, the ultimate goal is to find a cure.
