Aug. 7 is ‘National Night Out’ on Foxboro Common

On Tuesday, Aug. 7 the and Foxboro Jaycees will be holding the 29th annual “National Night Out” on Foxboro Common from 6 to 9 p.m.

Residents are invited to gather on the Common and participate in the national unique crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out involves over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. Last year, over 37 million people were expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime.’

National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Foxborough Police Department and Foxboro Jaycees.

This fun family event is designed to heighten awareness of crime and drug prevention efforts in the community. The event also aims to “generate support for and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back," according to a press release issued by the Foxborough Police Department.

Last year’s event included a live DJ and a Bounce House for the kids, sponsored by the police department. Foxborough PD also did fingerprinting kits for families and allowed kids to take a peak inside a police vehicle, where they tested out the various emergency sounds.

Pam Warren of the Foxboro Jaycees told Foxborough Patch at last year’s event that it is a “night for the community to come together and get out and meet face-to-face.”

The Jaycees also gave away glow sticks at last year’s event and ice cream was provided by the Lafayette House. The YMCA, HUGS and New Hope were on hand at the event with their own displays and activities as well.
