Nearly 800 Volunteers Help with Cupcakes for Veterans

Homeless veterans in Worcester and Boston will soon get a tasty treat straight from Foxboro. On Sunday morning and early afternoon, an estimated 800 volunteers came to Waxy O'Connors to assist the Foxboro-based organization Hero Helpers frost and decorate 3,000 cupcakes for homeless veterans.

The cupcakes, which were baked prior to Sunday's event, will be delivered today to the Boston Homeless Veteran's Shelter and the Worcester Homeless Veteran's Shelter.

"We wanted to do cupcakes because it's not expensive and it's a simple way to show our appreciation," Hero Helpers co-founder Lauren Eliopoulos said.

In addition to the cupcakes, there were also live carolers, raffles for gift cards to local restaurants and spas, and the opportunity to sponsor boxes of cupcakes and care packages.
