Vacation Week- Engineering & Design : Nests & Trees at Oak Knoll Wildlife Sanctuary

Join staff at Oak Knoll for a hands-on class learning the engineering and design systems that work in nature.

Design & Build a Bird’s Nest. Identify a problem that reflects the need for shelter, storage, or convenience. Bird's Nest Problem: how to construct a nest which can stand 18 inches from the ground, resist wind and protect the bird's eggs from predators.

Physics of Trees. We'll do experiments to learn about cohesion, adhesion and surface tension, the application of physics in nature.

Instructions and Directions:Hands-on class building and experimenting. Wear clothing that can get messy.

Audience: Children (suitable for children 6 - 11 years)
