Generosity for Jim, A Benefit for the Davin Family

GENEROSITY FOR JIM, A BENEFIT FOR THE DAVIN FAMILY AT DEMETRI’S

While the line for Jim Davin’s wake stretched from Roberts Funeral Home to CVS in late October, friends of the 48-year-old father of three decided it wasn’t enough to simply pay their respects to Jim’s wife Nicky and their three children Sean, Aidan and Julia. Foxboro friends, Boston-area contacts and extended family wanted to do more to help ease the Davin’s burden, and to applaud the outpouring of kindness from so many. By the time supporters packed the pews of St. Mary’s Church and celebrated the Wayne Drive resident’s life at a reception the following day – plans for a community fundraiser were well underway.

Foxboro is a special town. It’s no secret that we boast some truly wonderful givers here – people always willing to roll up their sleeves, write a check, champion a cause and support those in need. Locally, we know this spirit is unmatched, but recently the Davin’s connections outside of 02035 witnessed Foxboro’s loving embrace. “I am in awe of Foxboro, and the many ways that the community stepped up for my brother and his family during an incredibly difficult year. “ Boston Police Captain John Davin shares. “My family, our friends, our co-workers and Jim’s colleagues were blown away by Foxboro’s tribute. It is very comforting for my family to know that Nicky and the kids are surrounded by such love.” Davin goes on to say, “When we heard that plans were in place for a fundraiser – we were not surprised at all.  We are excited to return to Foxboro to celebrate Jim and the amazing community he called home.”

Generosity for Jim, A Benefit for the Davin Family will take place on Friday, January 11, 2013 at Demetri’s on Route 1 from 7:00pm-12:00am. Admission tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at the Hockomock YMCA in Foxboro, where Nicky Davin works. A limited number of Special Edition Cash Wheel tickets are also available for $100 each.

In true Foxboro philanthropic fashion, local favorite Thirty6Red and North Street DJ Steve Johnene will donate their musical talents so that guests can shake off the winter blues on the dance floor. The evening also entails a cash bar and simplified fundraising including a Cash Wheel elimination raffle with a $10,000 prize, a Wine Wall, a Scratch Ticket Raffle and a 50/50 Drawing.

Based on the number of local families that pitched in over the past year and the recent outpouring of support at Jim’s services - a large, lively crowd is anticipated. In fact, the event is being promoted as a cabin fever escape or the perfect excuse to reunite with old friends. “We want to honor Jim in a way that he would relate to,” Stonehill College friend and Foxboro resident PJ O’Toole explains.  “Our guiding philosophy has been to create a fun, less-is-more approach for this event. Jim was a casual, laid back guy, who loved a good time and enjoyed the company of friends and family. On January 11th, we will celebrate community, toast our friend, say thanks to his many supporters and again show his wife Nicky and his family how much Jim meant to all of us."
