What's New With the Tri Town Chamber of Commerce for May

A look at local events for the month of May.

April has been a month of “firsts” for the Tri Town Chamber of Commerce; May continues that trend.

For the first time ever, discounted tickets are available online for Tri Town’s second annual Monte Carlo & Silent Auction Night scheduled for Thursday, May 5 at Showcase Live in Foxboro. This event is open to the public and offers gaming tables (Roulette, Craps, Blackjack, Wheel of Fortune and Texas Hold’em), drawings, live music, and more. Tickets can also be obtained at several other area locations. Thanks to Mansfield Bank for being our Presenting Sponsor and to Mansfield Crossing and Deutsche Bank Championship for contributing as Royal Flush Sponsors.

We fielded our first official team for the Keep Mansfield Beautiful Great American Cleanup this past Saturday. The 8-member team patrolled the Corporal Robert Francis Hardy Conservation Area off of Maple Street, collecting over a dozen bags full of bottles, cans and assorted former paper products. It was great weather, great cause, great team, and great result.

Earlier in the week, the Chamber hosted its inaugural Women’s Link, a networking group developed to “empower women’s professional growth.” The event, that drew over 70 professionals to Showcase Live, was highlighted by keynote speaker Kathleen Burns Kingsbury’s presentation “Mastering the Female Money Mindset.” Thanks to Covidien, for sponsoring the event.

On April 27th, Tri Town “officially” welcomed one of our newest members. While The Best Sandwich Shop in Norton has been open since Fall 2010, the official Chamber ribbon cutting was held last Wednesday in its Great Woods Plaza location.  A dozen Tri Town board directors and ambassadors were on hand to celebrate Owner Mike Sweny’s successful debut.  Congratulations, Mike!

I had the opportunity to wear both my Chamber president and Job Guy hats for a keynote presentation to the Attleboro Area School to Career Partnership during its Career Day at Norton High School. About 125 kids were subjected to my presentation on narrowing down career choices and how to avoid really bad ones. I appreciate Congressman Jim McGovern’s office for recommending me as a resource.

Several other Tri Town Chamber members participated in Career Day group discussions. David Arnold from ESP Solutions, Cindy Peterson from Partners Healthcare at Patriot Place, and Brad Greenstein from North Easton Savings Bank represented well!

May 23rd is the date for the Chamber to host a local business summit with all three of our town managers: Kevin Paicos of Foxborough, Bill Ross of Mansfield and Michael Yuntis from Norton. The meeting will focus on issues of common concern among the three communities and ways in which the Chamber can most effectively help to promote business and community in the region.

Mansfield’s American Cancer Society Relay For Life will be held on June 17 and 18 at Mansfield High School. Tri Town Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kara Griffin, a past chair for the Mansfield organizing committee, continues for a 7th year leading the all-volunteer Tri-Town Chamber Team.

Birthday balloons will be in the air, as the Chamber is pulling together final plans to make a great showing in the Norton 300 Parade June 12th. While not a centennial, Foxborough is also celebrating its birthday with its annual Foxborough Founders’ Day the day before, on June 11th.

Patch’s own Eric Chicoine, Regional Publisher for MetroWest Patch Media, will be hosting a Business Over Breakfast seminar on “The Digital Ecosystem” in the Chamber’s conference room on May 13th from 7:45 to 9:15 AM. The talk focuses on how to use search engine optimization and marketing to drive business. Admission is free to members, $10 to non-members. Contact Ruthie by email or by phone 508 339 5655.

Our own Greg DeSimone of Focal Point Coaching, will be presenting “The Nine Realities of Marketing in Today’s Economy.”  This event is being co-hosted with the Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce at the Holiday Inn in Taunton on May 25 from 8 to 9:30.

One office is still available for rent at the Chamber facility in Mansfield Crossing, conveniently located near the intersection of routes 95 and 495. Email or call the chamber at 508 339 5655 for details.
