Deficit-Cutting Plan And School Calendar Changes

In case you missed it, here's a rundown on just a couple of stories that ran on Foxborough Patch last week.

The week kicked off at the School Committee meeting. Art curriculum, FY12 Capital Improvement Plan requests and a draft of the school calendar for the 2011-2012 school year were the main topics discussed

to start before Labor Day. Traditionally, Foxborough students begin school the day after Labor Day.

A special joint meeting took place on Tuesday evening between the Board of Selectmen and the School Committee. Foxborough's Town Manager, Kevin Paicos, presented solutions to the town's budget deficit at the meeting.

aimed at creating more revenue in 2 ways:

  • The ATM will be asked to adopt the new meal tax. Revenue potential from this proposal would total $601,921.
  • Co-pay changes to employee's health insurance plans. Currently, employees of the town pay a $5 co-pay for an office visit. This proposal would increase the co-pay to $15, saving the town over $190,000.

were the Ahern School Rododocs. The Rododocs competed in the State's first ever Lego League Championship. After 2 months of hard work and numerous set backs, the Robodocs won one of only 16 trophies awarded. 65 teams from schools across the State competed.
