State of Emergency Declared For Massachusetts

Central Massachusetts was hit with at least two tornadoes June 1 as Foxborough experienced severe thunderstorms.

A tornado watch was issued for most of New England and Norfolk County yesterday, June 1.

The weather in central Massachusetts, including two damaging tornadoes in the Springfield area, forced Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to issue a State of Emergency.

According to 7 News reports, Patrick is mobilizing up to 1,000 members of the National Guard to help in search and rescue and debris cleanup. The storms caused four deaths, an unknown number of injuries and extensive damage in 19 communities. FEMA inspectors are expected to tour and review the damage on Thursday.
