Selectmen and Kraft Group Continue Insurance Talks This Week

This week, Kraft Group officials and the Foxborough Board of Selectmen will meet again to try to come up with a solution to the town's liability insurance issue before the July 5 deadline.

The meeting is scheduled for July 3 at 5 p.m. in the Gala Meeting Room at Town Hall.

The issue at had comes down to a months-long dispute over the town's insurance for the stadium that has gone on for months.

On July 1, the deductible for claims from stadium incidents increased from $7,600 per claim to $50,000. With the new deductible too high for the town, a search began for a new policy with the assistance of the Kraft Group.

Stadium officials claimed on June 27 that the search stalled when town manager Kevin Paicos did not send the Kraft Group authorization forms to continue the search. The town manager was not present during the accusation due to military commitments.

Selectmen chairman Mark Sullivan suggested that the Kraft Group should cover the deductible for the July 6 New England Revolution soccer match against the San Jose Earthquakes to buy more time and due to the minimal issues that take place at most soccer matches. Officials for the stadium declined that option, telling Sullivan that they are not in the insurance business.

If a deal cannot be completed before July 5, the selectmen may pull the entertainment licenses for the soccer matches and concerts for July and the beginning of August. While the stadium would not be legally allowed to hold the shows, selectman Jim DeVellis admitted at the last meeting that realistically, the events would likely go on with or without the licenses.

Foxborough Cable Access will air the meetings on Comcast 22, Verizon 38, and on FCAtv.org.
