Relay for Life Big Success in Foxborough

The Relay for Life of Greater Foxboro combines fundraising with fun‎.

For over eight years, the Foxboro Relay for Life has raised over 1 million to be put towards cancer research.

On Saturday, June 18, the Relay for Life of Greater Foxboro held their annual Pantene Beautiful Length Charity event. Eleven people in total donated their locks with a minimum donation length of eight inches of hair. Those involved included a mother and her two daughters. Everyone who took part in the Pantene Beautiful Length Charity also participated in the Relay for Life Ceremony. Chairwoman, Amy Walker, stated that this was their fourth year participating with Relay for Life.

After a rainy Friday night, when the Relay officially kicked off, participants were excited to take in the warm Saturday weather. After participating in the relay all night, the sun seemed to wake tired eyes.

“During Relay for Life, you give up a night’s sleep to support those who are fighting cancer and to remember those who have lost their battle to cancer,” said Foxboro High School freshman Molly Sullivan.

“A night of no sleep doesn’t even compare to the battle that cancer patients face every day of their lives. It is a great environment that inspires everyone to get involved, show awareness, donate, and participate towards the cause,” Sullivan continued to say.

Participants involved stressed how successful the event was this year despite the rain. The sense of how caring and supportive participating teams were within the atmosphere of Relay for Life was abundant. Participants strive to help each other and enjoy their time with friends and family.

The sunny morning kept up with relay events, which included a demonstration from Personal Best Karate, Irish Step Dancing, Raffles, and also singing from Foxboro High School chorus students Kathleen Sharpe and Kaileigh Riess.
