Community Comes Together to Celebrate Life of ‘Mr. Foxborough’ James Davin

The town of Foxborough came together on Friday to celebrate the life of longtime resident and father of three, James Davin, who passed away this past October.

Hundreds of well-wishers came by Demetri’s Function Hall on Route 1 Foxborough to remember Davin and help support his family. Foxborough-based band Thirty6Red provided entertainment for the night as raffles and prizes were handed out to the many in attendance.

Tens of thousands of dollars have been donated in James' memory to help his family in the wake of his death. James was a Foxborough resident for 15 years and served as general counsel for the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department.

Norwood Market Robbed at Gunpoint

At approximately 10 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12, an unknown suspect robbed AJ’s Market at gunpoint, Norwood Police said in a statement.

The suspect was described as a black male 5’2” to 5’4” in height. He wore a black or dark blue hooded sweatshirt and a red bandana over his face. The suspect produced a small black handgun and robbed the clerk of an unknown amount of cash before making his escape in a small red motor vehicle down Route 1A.

Four Arrested After Brawl Breaks Out at Stoughton Baby Shower

A baby shower at Club Luis de Camoes on Porter Street in Stoughton the evening of Saturday, Jan. 12 turned into a full-fledged brawl that took 20 police officers nearly an hour to quell. Four from Brockton ended up getting arrested, including one juvenile.

Nearly 200 people, including children, were at the baby shower, which started at 9 p.m. A fight, which quickly escalated, broke out a little after 11:30 p.m. Stoughton Police responded, but needed assistance from three other local police departments as well as the State Police and Norfolk County Sheriff's Office to quell the brawl.

The three adult men pleaded not guilty to charges at Stoughton District Court on Monday, Jan. 14 and were released on 1,000 cash bail each.

Mansfield Selectmen to Let Residents Vote on BYOB

After three weeks of discussion, the selectmen will let the people of Mansfield decide the fate of the bring your own bottle (BYOB) policy in the spring town meeting.

While the board, with the exception of selectmen Chair Olivier Kozlowski, was against the policy due to a lack of resources to enforce it and the availability of two liquor licenses, they agreed to let the town decide where to go with BYOB.

According to the town’s legal council, to outright prohibit BYOB, a bylaw must be approved by the town's residents at a town meeting due to the current bylaw that prohibits the consumption of alcoholic beverages in public and inside establishments accessible by the public that do not have a liquor license.

The advice led to a motion that would leave the fate of the policy in the hands of Mansfield residents. Any action to prevent a BYOB policy by the selectmen would most likely not change the current legal status of the policy due to the bylaw that already exists.

Joe Kennedy III Tours Southeastern Regional

Fourth District Congressman Joe Kennedy III (D-Brookline) visited Southeastern Regional Vocational High School in Easton Friday morning to tour the facility and meet students and faculty.

Kennedy, who said vocational education should be "a focal point of a lot of our education efforts moving forward" wanted to see how the school operated.

"He called out of the blue," Southeastern Superintendent Luis Lopes said. "He was very interested in vocational education."

The school is currently in the midst of a $32.9 million renovation, thanks to funds from the Massachusetts School Building Authority. New lockers, renovated hallways, and a brand new gymnasium were part of Kennedy's tour.
