President Declares Emergency; FEMA to Provide Assistance

The Bay State will receive support from the Department of Homeland Security.

President Obama has declared an emergency in Massachusetts, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

FEMA announced that federal aid has been made available to the state, which will suppliment state and local response efforts in the area due to the emergency conditions from Hurricane Irene.

Specifically the President has authorized FEMA to identify, mobilize, and provide equipment and resources necessary to lessen the impacts of the emergency.

James N. Russo has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected area. 

Federal assistance, will be provided at 75 percent federal funding.
