Organizers Expecting a ‘Great Turnout’ for 25th Annual Founders Day

The community will be coming together to celebrate 25 years of Founders Day on Saturday, June 8th.

Founders Day turns 25 Saturday and organizers have spent months planning a town-wide celebration to remember.

A special addition to Founders Day weekend this year will be the town’s 250th Anniversary of the First Meeting House, which was located on the town’s Common. To celebrate the milestone, the community is invited to gather on the Common on Friday, June 7th for a dedication led by Town Historian Jack Authelet. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. READ MORE HERE.

Then on Saturday, Founders Day gets underway with activities – and the annual parade - beginning in the morning. The following information is courtesy of the Founders Day Committee, which organized and planned the event:

“The hustle and bustle of the gathering and arranging of the parade Saturday morning will most likely bring some interest to the center of town early. The Clydesdale horses will be towing our very own Steamer ‘Fire Engine’ from the steamer shed at around 9 a.m., which is located next to Memorial Hall. If you’ve never been in Memorial Hall this will be a great time to check it out. There is a lot of Foxborough history packed into this quaint building. And keep your ears open for the bands warming up prior to the parade.”

FOUNDERS DAY PARADE

The parade will start at 10 a.m. leaving from Leonard Street making its way up Central Street to the Foxborough Rotary, proceeding down Mechanic Street to Railroad Avenue, up Bird Street to the Rotary again, looping around to take a right down South Street and to the entrance of Booth Field just before the Stone wall.

FOUNDERS DAY FIELD ACTIVITIES

Field activities will immediately follow the parade at Booth Field. Look for demonstrations from the Fire Department and other town groups. At the field again this year we are expecting the Helicopter known as “Freedom’s Flying Museum.” We have two live bands playing again this year: “Twenty Past Two” and “The Galley Dawgs.”

Doll Carriage Parade is set for 1 p.m. at the tennis courts and registration starts at noon.

Cow Chip Bingo Deeds are still available at Cindi’s Diamond & Jewelry Gallery and Sharon Credit Union and will be sold at “The Founders Day Committee Tent” until “Daisy” is ready to strut her stuff. Right now that event is scheduled for 2 p.m.

FOUNDERS DAY FIREWORKS

On Saturday night, beginning at 9 p.m., be ready to look up for our amazing Fireworks presentation being run again by Atlas Pyro.

VOLUNTEERS ALWAYS WELCOME

Remember this is a volunteer-run program organized by a small group of dedicated Founders Day enthusiasts. If you’d like to join us please stop by the Founders Day Tent and introduce yourself. We will be more than happy to put you to work.

At the tent you will also find the newer “Entering Foxborough” T-shirts as well as a chance to win an iPad and an opportunity to fly above Foxborough in a small plane with two of your friends.
