National Grid Continues to Make Progress Restoring Power in Mass.

More than 200,000 Massachusetts Customers have power back; work continues around the clock.

National Grid crews, aided by crews from as far away as Texas, Michigan, North Carolina and Kansas have made significant progress in restoring power to Massachusetts customers who were affected by the devastating Nor’easter that left more than three million customers from the mid-Atlantic to New England without power.

National Grid has 2,500 workers in their Massachusetts communities from as far away as Texas and Kansas making repairs to the power system,” said Marcy Reed, president, National Grid Massachusetts.  Reed added, “We know this is a hardship for our customers and we’re grateful for their patience as we work to restore their power. We’re here, we’re on it and we will not stop until everyone has their electricity back.”

As of 2 p.m. today, approximately 212,000 customers have been restored.  Roughly 209,000 customers currently are without electricity, down from the peak of 421,000.  According to Reed, National Grid anticipates that the restoration will largely be complete by Thursday night, except for isolated pockets where damage was particularly severe, or in cases where customers need to make their own repairs before power can be restored safely.

Reed stressed, “This does not mean that everyone currently without power will have to wait until Thursday.  We are restoring service to customers every hour around the clock and most customers will have their power restored before then.”

National Grid currently has over 57 percent of Foxborough back online, with crews expected to make significant progress through tonight. Foxborough's Public Schools are scheduled to open Wednesday with normal hours.

National Grid has been urging the public since before the storm hit to avoid any downed lines.  This is especially important now that crews are energizing power lines on local streets and in neighborhoods.  It is critically important to stay away from any downed wires and call National Grid immediately at 800-465-1212 to report downed lines so crews can respond immediately.

Always keep generators outdoors – never use them inside a building, carefully follow the manufacturer’s instructions and be sure to turn off the main breaker on the electric panel to avoid endangering the lives of crews and others working on the restoration.

If you use a space heater, fireplace, wood stove or other alternate method of heat use extreme caution to avoid fire and carbon monoxide hazards.

For Downed wires and outages line call 1-800-465-1212.
