More Snow, Extreme Cold Expected in Foxborough This Week

A snowy end to the week could herald more wintry conditions for Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service.

Roughly two inches of snow fell on the Foxborough area Monday night into Tuesday morning and while the next three days are expected to be clear, temperatures will range between 1 and 18 degrees.

A chance of snow is predicted again for Friday and Saturday, with limited accumulation. The local forecast for the remainder of the week:

• Wednesday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 16. Wind chill values as low as -9. West wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Wednesday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 2. Wind chill values as low as -6. West wind 5 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph.

• Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 18. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 11 to 16 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Thursday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 3.

• Friday: A chance of snow after 3 p.m. Partly sunny, with a high near 27. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Friday night: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a low around 19. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

• Saturday: A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 25. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent. Saturday night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 6.

• Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 23. Sunday night: Mostly clear, with a low around 14.

When winter temperatures drop significantly below normal, staying warm and safe can become a challenge. Extremely cold temperatures often accompany a winter storm, so you may have to cope with power failures and icy roads. Although staying indoors as much as possible can help reduce the risk of car crashes and falls on the ice, you may also face indoor hazards. Many homes will be too cold—either due to a power failure or because the heating system isn't adequate for the weather. When people must use space heaters and fireplaces to stay warm, the risk of household fires increases, as well as the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Exposure to cold temperatures, whether indoors or outside, can cause other serious or life-threatening health problems. Infants and the elderly are particularly at risk, but anyone can be affected.
