Irene is Gone But Power Outages Remain for Foxborough

Foxborough officials are bringing in out-of-town groups to help solve the problem.

Foxborough residents may have to wait a little bit longer before the town’s power is back on.

“The majority of the town is still without power,” said Police Chief Edward O’Leary, who also noted that Foxborough officials are bringing in out-of-town groups to help solve the problem.

“We’re talking to specialists about strategies to get our grids back online, but theorizing and acting are two different things,” he said.

Although there is no official timetable or prediction of when it may happen, O’Leary said his team is working tirelessly to bring electricity back to Foxborough.  The town has been without power since early Sunday morning, when what was left of Hurricane Irene finally hit southern Massachusetts with winds in excess of sixty miles per hour.

The Associated Press has reported that over 4 million homes and businesses have suffered power outages on account of the storm. Over 500,000 of those reports were located in Massachusetts.
