Storm Has Slammed Foxborough with 20 Inches of Snow as of Noon

Updated snowfall totals show Foxborough has received 20 inches of snow as of noon Friday, according to the National Waeather Service. Holden has reported the most snowfall in the state as of noon Friday, reporting 22 inches.

Foxborough Leading the Way with 15 Inches of Snow

Foxborough has been hit with 15 inches of snow as of 8 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service, with more expected to fall until early afternoon. Foxborough has received the most accumulation in Norfolk County and is currently tied with Norton for the most snowfall in the state.

7Weather Blog: 'Nasty Storm Out There'

WHDH meteorologist Jeremy Reiner says it's a "nasty storm out there" and reminds him of a storm in southern New England in December of 1992.

"The storm was stuck south of New England which set up a fire hose of moisture into New England, blasting us with snow for several hours. Sound familiar? This too shall pass," Reiner writes in his weather blog. "It's not a good morning for travel across New England with bands of moderate to heavy snow marching inland (much like ocean swells approaching a beach). The last of these snow bands--the caboose if you will---will begin to shift south through New England between noon and 3 p.m. --first in the Merrimack valley and last down toward the Canal. Final snow totals will finish between 6-12" of snow by midday today (locally higher amounts likely)."

The latest forecast for Foxborough, according to the National Weather Service, is:

• Friday: Snow before 2 p.m., then rain and snow. High near 37. Breezy, with a north wind 16 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
• Friday night: A chance of rain and snow before 8 p.m. Cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 26. North wind 11 to 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. Little or no snow accumulation expected.

Then the relief comes Saturday with sunny conditions and a high near 44 expected. Almost like it never even happened.

Foxborough Public Schools Closed Friday

The overnight snowfall coupled with Thursday's "mini-jackpot" of accumulation in Foxborough proved to be too much to open schools Friday, March 8.

Foxborough Public Schools made the announced at 6 a.m. that schools would be closed today.

This marks the fifth time in the 2012-13 academic year Foxborough Public Schools have been closed due to weather and/or power outages. Foxborough was forced to shut down for two days in October due to power outages caused by Hurricane and Sandy and two days in February due to the Blizzard of 2013.

Friday's closing uses the fifth and final make-up date built into the original schedule of the 2012-13 calendar and pushes the last day of school from June 24 to June 25. The last day for seniors will remain May 31st.

Thursday, March 7:

Foxborough Part of ‘Mini Snow Jackpot’ Thursday with More Coming Overnight

Foxborough again found itself in the jackpot area of snowstorm as more than seven inches fell on the town Thursday with more coming overnight into Friday morning.

“The big news of the day is the mini-jackpot around Wrentham, Sharon, Foxborough and Mansfield,” said WHDH meteorologist Pete Bouchard on his weather blog Thursday evening. “With up to 7 inches already on the ground, this is essentially a "nowcast" - half of the forecasted amount is in the bag.”

Bouchard says the remaining hours of the storm will look like this:

• Snow of varying intensities through the night. Fits and starts. Lulls and heavier pulses. In and out. Sideways. You get the idea.
• Winds continue unrelenting. Gusts to 40-50 for most along the coast, 50-60 Cape/Islands.
• Rain outer Cape may mix with snow toward morning.
• Wrap-up in the storm will come late Friday morning. Abrupt end near noon.

“Snow is weighty and sticky. Isolated power outages are likely,” Bouchard writes. “Hang in there ... the weekend is bright, the temperatures warm through early next week, and although the extended forecast is chilly, it's also storm-free.”

The ocean storm was originally expected to drop just 3 to 5 inches of snow in the Foxborough area but an updated forecast Thursday morning showed accumulation could total closer to 6 to 7 inches. As of Thursday night, Foxborough is now expected to get a total of 10 to 14 inches before the storm ends around noon Friday.

The current local forecast calls for  snow overnight in Foxborough with a low around 28,” according to the National Weather Service. “Blustery, with a north wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

On Friday, expect “snow, mainly before 2 p.m. High near 36. Breezy, with a north wind 18 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.”

7 Inches of Snow has Fallen on Foxborough as of Thursday Evening

Fox25 News reported Foxborough has received seven inches of snow as of 6:45 p.m. with snow expected to continue through the night and into early Friday morning.

• Tri-Town Chamber of Commerce's "The Women's Link," scheduled for Friday morning has been rescheduled due to the storm to March 28th from 7:30-9:30 a.m. Please mark your calendars.
  
  
• Due to inclement weather, Thursday's MAJE Festival at Stoughton High School - which the Foxborough High Jazz Band was to participate in - will be held on Tuesday, March 12th. A new performance schedule will be posted shortly.

• Due to Thursday's weather, the afternoon storytime scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church has been cancelled.

Updated Forecast Predicts Half Foot of Snow in Foxborough

Originally thought to be a relatively small storm that would drop between 3 to 5 inches of snow in Foxborough, a new forecast from WHDH shows the town getting closer to six or more inches through Friday in the area. 

In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Norfolk County until 1 p.m. Friday. The warning claims the potential for anywhere from 4-8 inches of snow in the area, with a low probability of 10 inches in some isolated areas.

According to the warning, the heaviest accumulations are expected tonight into Friday morning but some accumulations will occur today, especially across the elevated interior areas of southeast Massachusetts.

Winds are expected to hit 15 to 25mph, with gusts up to 45mph.

Some power outages were reported in the area due to the weather on Thursday morning, according to National Grid's power outage map.
